Come From Away at the Arts Club is exactly the uplifting night out we all need right now.

If you’re looking for a show that will completely restore your faith in humanity and leave you with a massive smile on your face, go book tickets for Come From Away at the Arts Club immediately. Directed by Ashlie Corcoran at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, this production is a total triumph: fast, funny, and incredibly moving.

If you don't know the story, it’s based on the crazy true events of September 11, 2001, when 38 international flights were forced to land in the tiny town of Gander, Newfoundland. Just like that, 7,000 stranded travelers dropped out of the sky, doubling the town's population. It sounds like the setup for a stressful disaster movie, but instead, it’s a beautiful, true story about what happens when people choose kindness and hospitality over fear.

Corcoran does a fantastic job keeping the energy high and the pacing incredibly tight. The stage setup is pretty minimalist, mostly just some chairs and some rotating panels, but the staging is so clever that you instantly feel like you’re flying in a cramped plane, drinking at a rowdy local pub, or riding on a school bus.

Every single actor in this ensemble is rock solid. There are no small parts here; the entire cast stays on stage pretty much the whole time, constantly swapping hats and accents to play both the stressed-out passengers and the quirky, fiercely welcoming Newfoundlanders. Their chemistry is fantastic, the vocals are spot-on, and they nail the fast-paced comedy just as well as the quiet, emotional moments of grief and worry.

But the best part about this show is just how unapologetically uplifting it is. In a world that can feel pretty heavy right now, watching strangers open up their homes, cook giant meals, and comfort people they’ve never met is just pure therapy.

It misses a tiny bit of the raw grit of the original Broadway version, but it more than makes up for it with sheer heart and joy. It's a beautiful, feel-good hit that you definitely shouldn't miss.

Come From Away is at the Stanley BFL Canada Stage until Aug. 16, 2026.
